Our theme for August is birds.
Today for our Art & Play event, we made bird feeders for our feathered friends!
We used:
First we attached a ribbon to our pinecones. We began covering our pinecones with peanut butter. This was a lot of fun! At one point the kids decided that it would be faster to use their hands instead of the popsicle stick to cover the pinecones. This became quite messy, but no one seemed to notice. Once our pinecones were completely covered in peanut butter, we rolled them in some bird seed. We were definitely surprised how heavy the pinecones were after they were finished. They held a lot of peanut butter.
We will be hanging our bird feeders on our fence. These would work great if they were hanging on a branch, or shed, or even on a gazebo. We can't wait to see the birds eat our creations.
After our craft we took out some paint and really got creative!
In keeping with our theme, we painted with feathers. We also used some pipe cleaners that were made into the shape of bird feet. These made some neat bird prints across our paper.
When our arts & crafts were
completed, the kids definitely wanted to have some play time
together! They headed over to our trampoline to work off some energy!

- some peanut butter (oatmeal can be used as a peanut free option)
